Singing consumes much of a person’s energy and this is why it is vital for one to take care of their voice especially after stage performances or regular practice sessions. The first thing that a singer should do is get enough rest and avoid talking much after practice. Rest does not necessarily mean that one should sleep, one may take a time-out to enjoy some peace and quiet thus enabling the throat muscles to relax. Sleeping is also effective, as it enables the cells to repair. Talking much causes one’s voice to become hoarse and recovering from it may take a while. Talking less reduces the strain on one’s voice though singers should avoid whispering as it weakens their vocal ability. They should consume viscous tea made from the barks of Elm trees or Yogi Tea because they assist in soothing the throat thus enabling them to sing effectively.
Musicians may also resort to taking lemon tea once a day every day because lemon greatly assists in soothing one’s voice. Honey also assists in soothing the throat and one may take it in their tea or spread it on their favorite pastry or bread. One should avoid taking very hot liquids or very cold liquids as they cause a singers voice to become hoarse. Most people assume that very cold drinks are suitable during hot weather but this is not the case. Singers should stick to consuming room temperature drinks during the summer season because it cools the throat but does not mess up one’s health. Moderately hot tea is adequate especially during the winter season when common colds and flu’s are common. During the cold season, one should dress up warmly by putting on turtlenecks and sweaters to shut out the cold. One may also put on thermo vests and scarves around their necks to prevent them from getting sore throats, which can affect a person’s voice.
When the voice box is warm, it expands thus enabling one to sing in their normal voices. Singing dehydrates a person’s throat and this is why taking water is vital. One does not have to wait until practice is over for them to take water, one may take small sips in order to ensure that the throat remains hydrated. Another way in which a singer can take care of their voice is by exercising. People who do not exercise diminish their vocal potential and this may be a barrier to singing effectively. Some of the exercises that are suitable for singers include tango dancing, swimming and bike riding. One should also avoid staying in congested areas, as they are likely to pick a cold form other people. Airy places are suitable for singers because it reduces the chances of them attaining colds.
